I am Midas, a local Hong Kong citizen. I obtained a PhD in English Literature from the University of Birmingham, under a scholarship awarded by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council, as well as an MPhil in English from the University of Hong Kong. My specialty is in Old English (i.e., Anglo-Saxon) and Latin. Learning these two languages—even from scratch—is an achievable task: it does not need to be difficult. It expands your understanding of the humanities in a unique way, and it offers an entirely new perspective on language, cultures, and values. All levels are welcome, whether you plan to learn as a hobby, hope to add unique strengths to your portfolio for further education, or wish to incorporate these two languages into your assignments and research at university. I can also help with general English and academic writing!

Hi! If you're at all interested in history, literature, music, philosophy, or human culture, you will have noticed the the language and cultural heritage of the Greek and Roman civilisations played a central role in the shaping of our modern world, and continue to do so. I have a BA in Classics (Greek & Latin) from King's College London and an MA in Late Antique & Byzantine Studies from the same place. I have twenty years of experience teaching Classical Greek and Latin to beginning and intermediate students, and would love to start you on your learning journey. Whether your interests are in the secular or sacred sphere, classical or mediaeval periods, we can tailor the target reading material. While I am based in the North, location isn't usually a problem (unless you live on Jurong Island, Tuas, or Loyang) - we can meet at your home, my home, any coffee place, or even a HDB void deck.
