I can teach all areas of chemistry within A-level/IB curriculum. I have specialised in organic chemistry, enzyme catalysis and protein folding kinetics but the nature of the course at Cambridge makes it broad in nature. I also have expertise from material sciences and marthematics.
I routinely use an online meeting client, collaborative board (I provide lesson notes after each class), my own worksheets and resources. I routinely use AI tools to assist in customising lesson materials to each student. I provide monthly reports/updates and suggestions regarding future tuition.
I focus on chunking the content into managable bits. I focus on ensuring understanding first and then follow up in linking ideas together and building up confidence to tackle typical exam style problem solving multi step questions to finish with. I place emphasis on positive attitude and internal motivation in a student, therefore it is crucial to build confidence and resilience in students, especially if they are discouraged towards the subject.
Due to the nature of online lessons I am not able to perform practicals, however I have a good range of online videos/resources that help with understanding of the experimental nature of chemistry. I focus on technique and methodology and ensure students consider all aspects of empirical nature of experimental sciences.
Organic chemistry suffers from stigma of being a rote learning excercise. I focus on breaking down mechanisms into logical elementary steps derived from basic principles and concepts such as dipole'dipole interactions and group reactions together. This help me to develop the way of thinking about mechanisms as whole classes and patterns which makes a huge difference in understanding this area of chemistry. I highlight links between classes of compounds and relationships between them to ensure students can fluently switch between a broad range of different compound classes.
My lessons are run in the style of Cambridge supervisions. Having first hand experience equips me with tools that make one to one education such a powerful technique. I focus on students explaining their ideas, explaining their thought processes and correcting them on their way. This enables me to deepen and probe their understanding at the very moment of them tacking the problem. I use this also to help prepare for univeristy applications, interview prep and admission test practice. I routinely incorporate Chemistry Olympiad and other competitions questions as extensions as well as tasks built by myself and forcing students to think in non-standard, out of the box way.
