Master's student in Theoretical Physics — Maths & Physics lessons online (FR/EN).
Hi! I’m a physics enthusiast currently completing the final semester of my MSc in Theoretical Physics at Utrecht University. My research focuses on galaxy–galaxy gravitational lensing in collaboration with the DESC and LSST-Rubin teams, and I’m preparing to continue to a PhD in astrophysics, where I’ll also take on teaching assistant duties. Tutoring is something I already enjoy — it lets me share my enthusiasm for maths and physics while further developing my teaching skills. When I’m not studying the universe, I love music, hiking, and discovering new cafés. I’d be happy to support you in maths or physics up to high school (and a little beyond) in either French or English.

PhD in mathematics, and 7 years of work experience helping you get amazing marks :)
I am Susovan, a PhD in Mathematics in Paris, France, with years of experience in teaching and tutoring, as well as experience of working in industry as a data scientist. I also worked as a postdoctoral research scientist in renowned American university like University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and renowned French institutions/grades écoles like Cole Polytechnique and INRIA. Prior to my doctorate, I did my Masters degree in Mathematics from the prestigious Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in India. During 5 years of my PhD at Rutgers University, USA, I instructed, designed exams, homework and quizzes for, and graded several courses in mathematics. These courses were mostly undergraduate, and the precalculus courses had a lot in common with the 10+2 level IB Mathematics and GCSE Mathematics courses. For example, I taught, differential and integral calculus, complex numbers, geometry in 2D and 3D, probability and statistics, vector analysis, combinations and permutations among many other topics. I have also been tutoring privately to students of all ages and taught more elementary as well as advanced topics for about 2 years in addition. Among many others, I've also tutored for IB Mathematics courses (e.g. Analysis and Approaches HL), ACT and GRE Math preparation, Masters in Data Science/Statistics and also French middle school ('collège') students. I received excellent recommendations and five star ratings from clients/students and can produce them. I'm also a TESOL certified English instructor and privately tutored English, mostly to French students, focussing on mainly their spoken English, but at times writing skills as well. I use a graphic tablet, digital pen, screen sharing and recording options so that I make online teaching experience an in-person experience, and due to recording of the call (only if the student wishes to), (s)he can always revisit the lectures or lesson after it's over.

Additionally, studying the solutions to similar problems and understanding the reasoning behind them can also be helpful.

👉 How can I prepare for mathematical exams and assessments?

Preparing for mathematical exams and assessments involves reviewing and practicing key concepts, solving sample problems, and seeking help from teachers or tutors. It is also important to manage time effectively during exams and to understand the format and type of questions that will be asked.

👉 What are the common mistakes made by students while learning Mathematics and how can they be avoided?

Common mistakes made by students while learning Mathematics include not paying attention to details, rushing through problems, not checking work, and not seeking help when needed. These mistakes can be avoided by being attentive, taking time to understand the problem, double-checking work, and asking for assistance when needed.

👉 How can I overcome a fear or dislike of Mathematics?

Overcoming a fear or dislike of Mathematics requires a change in mindset and attitude. This can be achieved by breaking down complex problems into smaller parts, seeking help from teachers or tutors, finding real-life applications of mathematical concepts, and focusing on understanding the concepts rather than just getting the right answer.

👉 What are the career opportunities for someone with a strong foundation in Mathematics?

A strong foundation in Mathematics can lead to a variety of career opportunities, including actuarial science, finance, data analysis, computer science, engineering, and education. Mathematics is also a valuable skill in many other fields, such as physics, economics, and statistics.

👉 How can students develop an interest in learning Differential Equations?

Here are some tips on how students can develop an interest in learning Differential equations.

Firstly, students should incorporate visualisations into their study sessions. Visuals such as graphs, diagrams or animations will help bring the concepts of Differential equations to life and make them easier to comprehend. Secondly, students should apply the theories they learn in class to real-life situations.

This will help them understand why these equations exist and how they can be used practically. Lastly, consider enrolling in online tutorials or talking to peer tutors specialising in this field. These resources may provide valuable insights which could motivate further exploration of the topic by providing context and making it more interesting for learners.

👉 What are the best practices to learn Differential Equations efficiently?

The most effective strategies and tips for mastering this subject area-

One of the best approaches to learning Differential equations is by doing plenty of practice problems. This allows students to become familiar with both the theory and techniques needed for solving a wide range of Differential equation problems while also honing their problem-solving skills in general.

Additionally, it's helpful to understand basic calculus concepts such as derivatives and integrals, which will help make solving more complex equations easier in the long run.

👉 What is Differential Equations, and why is it important for students to learn?

Differential equations are particular equations that can describe many phenomena in the natural and applied sciences. These equations involve the derivatives (rates of change) of functions for one or more independent variables. Differential equations have many real-world applications, including physics, engineering, economics, biology and finance.

Students need to learn Differential equations because they provide an effective way to model real-world problems. Students gain valuable problem-solving skills for future studies and careers by learning how to solve these equations. Additionally, understanding how these equations work can help students understand how different physical systems operate and interact with each other. Finally, Differential equations also serve as a powerful tool for performing numerical simulations, which can be used to predict data trends or forecast future outcomes.
